Thursday 22 August 2019 @ 5:30 pm6:30 pm NZST
Free

The ATL Curator of Drawings, Paintings & Prints, Dr Oliver Stead, displayed some original items in the Turnbull collections relating to the great Yorkshire navigator, James Cook, whose remarkable first voyage to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands 250 years ago gathered a wealth of information, artefacts and botanical specimens, and produced the very first detailed map of New Zealand. A large and enthusiastic audience enjoyed this opportunity to see and hear about some of the Turnbull’s great treasures.

Dr Oliver Stead has been Curator Drawings Paintings & Prints at the Alexander Turnbull Library since October 2015. He is the author of a number of books on New Zealand art.
