IN MEMORIAM: SHEILA WILLIAMS

Sheila Williams, a valued FOTL committee member and former Turnbull Library staff member, sadly died on 31 March, aged 86. Sheila had deep ties to the Turnbull Library: her grandfather was a friend of Alexander Turnbull, and her father was a FOTL committee member and president (1965-1971). Sheila’s career at the Library led to her becoming Chief Cataloguer. Over 28 years, she worked in Turnbull House and helped transition to the new National Library in 1987. Later, she lectured in cataloguing and bibliography at Victoria University and was Assistant Editor of the NZ National Bibliography. Sheila was honoured as a Fellow of the Library and Information Association of NZ (1980-89), was a dedicated Friends’ committee member for 31 years (1993-2024) and was made an honorary member of FoTL in 2024. She will be very much missed.
